1: SCAVENGER HUNTS
Another favorite event for teams of any size is Life Outside’s scavenger hunt.
This fun event is personalized for the client and includes challenges, fun facts, and unique stops and is able to be held anywhere YOU are!
We have various programs in and around Portland as well as a brand new Goonies-themed scavenger hunt in Astoria!
2: IGLOO BUILDING
Igloo builds are one of our most popular winter events.
No experience is necessary.
Life Outside provides the gear and the guides, and you bring your sense of adventure. This fun event provides ample opportunities for families and corporate teams alike to work together and to reiterate goals planned for the group.
We include snowshoe hike before if time allows.
3: ORIENTEERING (map and compass class) followed by a fun SCAVENGER HUNT
Are you looking to increase your team’s productivity and enhance employee relations while learning a practical new skill?
Do you want your staff to get to know one another better while having fun?
If so, this team building activity is perfect for your group. After a creative icebreaker and a 45-minute orienteering class, instructors take the group on a scavenger hunt outside so that participants can use their new skills, compasses, and topographical maps.
We work with the event planner beforehand to create teams and incorporate challenges based on the number of participants, group goals, and time frame. We can also facilitate a debrief session afterward.
Life Outside provides instructors, maps, compasses, information packets, colorful bandanas, fun props, and prizes (if desired).
Life Outside has courses at many locations around the NW, including Timberline Lodge, Skamania Lodge, the Resort at the Mountain, Trillium Lake, McIver Park, and Champoeg State Park. We can design a course anywhere with advance notice.
During this activity participants learn:
– How to work together as a team to achieve a goal
– How to improve communication skills
– How to “stay found” in the backcountry
– How to use navigational tools including a topographical map and compass
– Ten essentials for safe outdoor recreation
4: STORYLINE-BASED NAVIGATION EXERCISE
Similar to our orienteering program, the storyline-based navigation exercise provides a shorter map and compass lesson.
Teams then get out on course where they practice basic compass skills while following a story line. Teams must follow the story and complete team challenges in order to successfully navigate the course.
We work with the event planner beforehand to create teams and incorporate challenges based on the number of participants, group goals, and time frame. We can also facilitate a debrief session afterward.
Life Outside provides instructors, all needed materials, colorful bandanas, fun props, and prizes (if desired). Life Outside has all-season courses at Timberline Lodge. Snowshoe the course in winter for an added challenge!
We can design a course anywhere with advance notice.
5: WINERY, PUB, AND SCENIC TOURS
Numerous wineries and microbreweries have sprung up in the Columbia Gorge. We can arrange for tours and tastings at these fine establishments so that you can experience new varieties of wonderful wines and microbrews.
You will also learn about Gorge history, geology, Lewis & Clark, recreation and much more.
6: MICRO MARATHON
Inside or outside skills: communication, cooperation, trust, creativity, strategy, problem solving.
This activity is a mix of mental, creative, strategic and physical challenges.
The group is divided into teams and each team has 7 minutes to complete a different task at each station. The winning team is determined by points earned for team work, creativity, strategy, and bonus questions answered along the way.
This is a great activity if you only have 1.5 hours available for team building.
7: SNOWSHOEING or X-COUNTRY SKIING
We provide the best guides and gear.
No experience is necessary.
This is a great activity if you want to keep your group together while playing outside in the snow. During the winter we can incorporate our orienteering scavenger hunt with snowshoeing and/or x-country skiing for a challenging event!
** Costs for all of the activities and tours vary based on numerous variables including the number of participants, location, transportation, meals, props, prizes, etc.

b. Which event from our menu appeals to you
c. The number of people in your team
d. Is this a corporate event, family outing, etc
e. What is the fitness level of the group
f. If you have a specific budget in mind
